It’s common knowledge that every time you hear a special lullaby chime in a hospital a new child has entered the world.

Spinning off a similar theme that underscores the long-distance durability of a VW to roll over the 100,000 mark on the odometer. In VW’s Super Bowl spot, a white coated engineer receives their wings when the odo tops the 100k mark. The German automaker is claiming it has the most vehicles with on the road with more than 100,000 miles.

Wings” can be seen on VW’s YouTube® channel before it airs in the second quarter of the Big Game this Sunday.

They’re a cross between a bad Rorschach Ink Blot and an under exposed photograph. In PR parlance they’re known by another term: the ‘teaser’ shot.

Subaru of American (SOA) released this teaser today of its all-new 2015 Legacy sedan that will debut Feb. 6 at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.

Soobie said its new Legacy offers a sleeker, coupe-like profile with a faster windshield rake angle and narrower A-pillars that create a sporty and modern sedan.

VW of America has announced its base 2014 Beetle price will be $20,295 with a five-speed manual mixer and $21, 395 if you get the 6-speed automatic.

The Beetle drop top, which is only available with the 6-speed AT, begins at $25,170. Delivery is  $820 for both models. 

 The 1.8T engine pumps out 170 horsepower at 4,800 to 6,200 rpm, matching the horsepower rating of the outgoing 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, but delivered at 700 fewer revs.

All 1.8T Beetles boast electric power steering, in place of the hydraulic setup on the 2.5 models.

 

The new engine with the 1.8T and a 6-speed AT gets 33 mpg on the highway, up from 29 mpg for the 2.5-liter engine. Additionally, city mileage improves from 22 to 25 mpg, and the overall EPA estimated combined fuel economy is likewise up 3 mpg to 28 mpg compared with 25 for the previous model.

 

On the manual transmission model, the EPA city/combined/highway fuel economy ratings have improved from 22/25/31 mpg to 24/27/33 mpg.

In the case of the Beetle Convertible, the EPA ratings have gone from 21/23/27 mpg to 24/27/32 mpg—a 19 percent gain in the estimated highway fuel economy.

As a friend used to tell me, “son you don’t pay for half a hair cut do you? Heck, no. You get it done right or not at all.”

That’s a gross exaggeration of the concept but one that an Audi satirical Super Bowl TV spot will make for its all-new 2014 A3.

The 60-second commercial airs at the first in-game break after half-time. That means folks will see if if they’re just back from the fridge or bathroom breaks.

Audi of America released the full version, called “Doberhuahua” today on its YouTube channel.

“Unlike other entry-level luxury sedans, the Audi A3 family breaks the boundaries and raises the bar as to what is expected out of entry-level luxury vehicles. The Audi A3 doesn’t compromise on luxury, design or performance,” said Loren Angelo, Director of Marketing for Audi of America. “Through the use of this unlikely new character – the Doberhuahua – Audi illustrates how compromise can be frightening in a humorous, memorable way.”

Simple stated, “Doberhuahua” follows a young couple in their hunt for the perfect dog. When they can’t decide on a breed to choose – a cute and cuddly Chihuahua or a big and bold Doberman Pinscher – the pet store owner suggests they comprise and blend the two breeds. The result: A Doberhuahua that quickly takes over the city, wreaking havoc and leaving chaos in its wake. “Compromise scares us too,” says Audi at the end. The spot also features the hashtag #StayUncompromised.

Singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan, an animal rights advocate, is featured in a cameo appearance. McLachlan starred in a teaser for the brand’s game day spot last week.

The all-new Audi A3 lineup begins with the A3 sedan, which goes on sale in the spring of 2014 with a base MSRP of $29,900.

Kiplinger’s recommends lower priced models with high end features in annual car issue

Washington, DC (January 22, 2014)—  Kiplinger’s Personal Finance unveiled its annual car buyer’s guide: a comprehensive review of hundreds of vehicles that reveals the best values among the newest models.   • Best In Class: Tesla Model S. Model S breathes the rarefied air of expensive European luxury sedans—and raises the bar. While the horsepower numbers are on the level with the competition, the acceleration is mind-boggling, thanks to instant torque typical of electric vehicles, and “fuel” economy beggars belief, too. It’s also eligible for a federal tax credit of $7,500.

Sports Cars

Minivans*

  • Best In Class: Honda Odyssey. Honda’s reputation for reliability pairs well with a penchant for safety to push the Odyssey head and shoulders above the competition. Small Crossovers

Hyundai hopes Super Bowl watchers find its 2014 Hyundai Elantra will be “Nice” enough to shop in the showroom after its 30-second spot runs

Starring with the car is “Big Bang Theory” actor Johnny Galecki behind the wheel of an Elantra when an attractive woman pulls up next to him in the exact same car.

Admiring the woman’s good taste, Galecki utters, “nice ride.” As the light turns green, the pair become engaged in a flirtatious game of one-upsmanship. Legendary comedian Richard Lewis even makes a cameo as Galecki’s passenger, adding his own rambling commentary.

The Elantra is the first product that Galecki has endorsed – as a product or a brand – on air.

“I’ve always loved Super Bowl ads – the commercials during the game are always the highlight for me,” said Galecki. “In this Hyundai spot, there’s a car chase, there’s explosions, and even a car jump – it’s exciting, cinematic and filled with humor. I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

Like any company hyping a new product, Hyundai (it rhymes with Sunday) will show off its new luxury sedan, the 2015 Genesis with a 30-second ad in the first quarter of the upcoming Super Bowl called “Dad’s Sixth Sense.”

Channeling a parent’s intuition, the spot dramatizes near-misses and saves that are a part of every day parenting while the boy grows up. The final “save” is made by the Genesis.

Running through the commercial is Bruno Mars’ song, “Count On Me.”

“The safety features of the Genesis are like the safety a dad provides to his children, coming to the rescue when it counts,” said Steve Shannon, vice president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “The spot also captures the car’s dramatic exterior design, intuitive features, premium craftsmanship and confident handling and performance.”
