Only one thing may go faster than the all-new 2015 Soobie WRX STI: the 1,000 car supply Launch Edition that boasts the line’s classic WR Blue skin and gold BBS wheels. Of course, there’s a rear spoiler.
Driven by its staple Boxer engine, the 2.5-liter, 305 hp motor, inline 4-cylinder, the STI produces 305 horsepower (SAE) at 6,000 rpm and 290 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It mates to a reinforced 6-speed manual short-throw shifter. For anyone who still has the car roll back on a hill, Start Assist is the electronic aid you wished for on your driver’s test.
The Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) powertrain management system provides up to three driving modes: Intelligent, Sport, and Sport Sharp via rotary dial on the center console. Handling is enhanced with a stiffer chassis, firmer springs and faster steering (13.0:1 ratio).
Also new is Active Torque Vectoring joins an arsenal of the model’s proven handling technologies that includes Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, and a Brembo® Performance Brake System with Super Sport ABS.
A bolder front design with narrower headlights said to evoke a raptor’s stare and a nose-cone config blend the nose and grille into a single unit ahead of the hood.
Special hood, fenders, doors and quarters, bumpers, headlights and taillight clusters convey the WRX STI identity. The mail slot, which is set farther back upon the hood to boost visibility, on the hood is functional, supplying the intercooler with fresh air.
The full aerodynamic package includes the large trunk spoiler that has been a WRX STI signature feature. A rear diffuser, LED taillights and LED center high-mount stop lamp (CHMSL) leave a distinctive signature.
WIthout pricing announced, nor an on sale date, you’ll have to act fast to catch these real life road worthy rally cars and all of their technology.
