Just a few months ago, we met the Hyundai Veloster Turbo survival machine. Now, just in time for the upcoming New York Comic-Con when it debuts Oct. 10 is the Hyundai Santa Fe zombie fighter.

Designed by Anson Kuo from Arizona, his efforts were tabbed the best from more then 82,500 submissions. Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) has built a real-life machine to fend off the un-dead zombies should they surface from Gotham’s subways, featuring:

  • urban camouflage
  • knife blades
  • an automatic crossbow
  • razor-wired windows
  • 3 machine guns
  • a samurai sword
  • aluminum armor
  • a muffler silencer.

Kuo’s mission was to create a stealth vehicle with cargo space for supplies and passengers, maximizing survivability against the undead. Having knives as a primary weapon ensures scarce ammunition is conserved, said Kuo.

“We love Anson Kuo’s take on this Santa Fe Zombie Survival Machine – it’s creative… and deadly,” said Steve Shannon, vice president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “With help from the popularity of The Walking Dead franchise, Hyundai continues to expand the conversation around Hyundai vehicles with young and passionate audiences.”

New York Comic-Con attendees will be able to take pictures with the new Zombie Survival Machine at the Future US booth and get inside the vehicle to check out all of the features. The booth will also feature a zombie make-up artist, limited edition giveaways, and more.

To hype its appearance at the 2013 SEMA show, Hyundai (it rhymes with Sunday) Performance, has released conceptual drawings of a new Legato Concept based on the Genesis Coupe that promises to add to its successful SEMA legacy in Las Vegas, Nov. 5-8.

“Legato” is an Italian musical term meaning “tied together,” conveying the seamless integration of exotic design, tuned performance and luxury coupe interior ambience. From the exterior, the Legato Concept takes the design themes of the production Genesis Coupe and expands them to concept car levels, while retaining the integrity of the original design. The complete ARK Legato body treatment includes front and rear bumpers, side skirts, deck lid and wide-body cues, for a truly unique and integrated exotic performance look. A racing silver exterior color maximizes the surface visibility of the concept’s nuanced design.

“The ARK Legato Concept demonstrates the compelling appeal and versatility of the original Genesis Coupe production concept,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “ARK Performance has taken this original concept and expanded its appeal to the most demanding premium coupe owners at a whole new level.”

Under the hood, a production Hyundai 3.8-liter Lambda V6 engine is stroked to 4.0-liters for 400 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft. of torque. Inside the block, a Brian Crower (BC) 4.0 Stroker Kit with JE Pistons and BC 4340 crankshaft, connecting rods, and ARK oil cooler ensure maximum output with superior durability. An ARK intake system and headers enhance engine breathing at high rpm, while a lightweight pulley kit reduces parasitic power losses from ancillary equipment. An ARK dual-mass flywheel and carbon clutch kit ensure efficient power transfer to the pavement.

With the Legato concept at speed, an ARK DT-P coil-over suspension system coupled with lightweight Rays Engineering G25 wheels and Nitto NT05 tires ensure outstanding dynamic grip, while ARK carbon brake pads add fade resistance and stopping power.
